THE
TOTALUP WAY TO PLAY POKER
“STEP POKER” is designed to attract not only poker players but also
the general crowd. It is quite different from the other known poker
games since players do not compete against each other or against the
dealer. STEP POKER is a banked game of pure chance and, players are
paid progressively from the first card to the fifth card. A preferred
version of the game is given below.

Rules of Play
Step Poker is played with one standard deck of cards. The game has
between two and five steps in a round of play, and wagers for all
steps are placed at the start of the round. Wagers are placed by each
player on at least the first two steps of play in the round and each
player has the option of placing additional wagers for subsequent
steps of the round. At each step of the card game, each player’s hand
is determined to be a winning hand or not according to a predetermined
rule or a predetermined pay table. At each step of the game the dealer
deals only one card to each player.
Players place wagers in posts 1 to 5; wagers on posts 1 and 2 are
compulsory and wagers on posts 3, 4 and 5 are optional. Players must
place wagers in numerical order at the start of a round, i.e., they
cannot skip a step in the wagering although they are not necessarily
required on all steps. Each wager has to be within the minimum-maximum
limits posted at the table and each wager can vary within those
limits. The amount of each wager made by each player can vary between
the steps of the game.
The dealer gives one card to each player at the table and places it
open at post #1. The dealer collects the losing bets and pays the
winning bets according to the pay table for the first wager. The first
card of each player is left open at the table.
The dealer then gives a second card to each player and places it open
at post #2. The dealer then collects the losing 2 cards and the wagers
on post #2 and pushes back all wagers on posts #3, #4 and #5 towards
the respective players. The dealer pays the winning wagers on post #2
for the two-card hands according to the pay table for the second
wager.
The dealer then gives a third card to each player who won at the
second step, if any, and has placed a third wager so as to qualify for
a third step of the game. The dealer then collects the losing 3 cards
and the wagers on post #3 and pushes back all wagers on posts #4 and
#5 to the respective players. The dealer pays the winning wagers on
post #3 for the three-card hands according to the pay table for the
third wager.
The dealer gives a fourth card to each player who won at the third
step, if any, and has placed a fourth wager so as to qualify for a
fourth step of the game. The dealer then collects the losing 4 cards
and the wagers on post #4 and pushes back all wagers on post #5
towards the respective players. The dealer pays the winning wagers on
post #4 for the four-card hands according to the pay table for the
fourth wager.
The dealer gives a fifth card to each player who won at the fourth
step, if any, and has placed a fifth wager so as to qualify for a
fifth step of the game. The dealer then collects the losing 5 cards
and the wagers on post #5. The dealer pays the winning wagers on post
#5 for the five-card hands according to the pay table for the fifth
wager and collects the winning 5 cards.
Below is a summary of a $1 bet settlement and the casino advantage in
each betting area and for all the five betting areas. The casino
advantage varies from 0.89 % to 3.96 %.
